Treat employees well and they will treat customers well
Teating employees with respect, showing appreciation for their work and being an encourager will create a desire in employees to also treat customers and clients well. It will contribute to higher productivity levels and profitability. It makes employees want to come to work and not dread it. It inspires and motivates them to work harder, produce more and become more engaged.
One of the best results is they will treat customers like they are treated. There are many things a manager or owner can do to support their employees. Here are some ideas:
Develop relationships with employees. Know their names and let them know their opinions count.
Be genuine and consistent. Ensure you believe in and communicate your company’s culture. Be truthful and honest in all your dealings.
Promote an entrepreneurial spirit. Your employees are closest to the work processes, products, services and the customers. Listen to their ideas. Make employees feel like partners in your business.
Provide rewards, recognition and incentives. Reward employees who are proactive and go the extra mile as they make an impact on the company in a positive way. It doesn’t always have to be monetary. Show a difference between slackers and go-getters.
Communicate often. Employees want to know what is going on and to be included. Use praise and encouragement, but be genuine. Horizontal and vertical communications should be practiced and encouraged.
